COLOR ISLAND
Connecting remote
cottage artisans with the World.
Color Island is a
world wide marketing venue for one-of-a-kind, hand-made traditional and
functional art located in remote and often primitive areas. Cottage art
and industry are disappearing as efficiencies of the modern world spread.
Furthermore, original art and fashion in the developed world are becoming
prohibitively expensive and reasonable offerings are mass produced or generic. By
exposing collectable and functional, yet affordable unique pieces to a greater
market we not only support the producing artists, but foster a greater
appreciation and understanding of their fascinating cultures. Most of the pieces
you will find at Color Island have histories dating back centuries, if not
millennia.
Color Island originated in
the island archipelago of Indonesia and will expand to reach artisans in
other developing countries in the future. Our initial offerings center upon
woven and batik silks and cotton in a number of contrasting styles, plus
jewelry, carved wood utensils and architectural structures for the home or
business.
