This luxury all season scarf is an original batik, one of a kind, handmade by the fifth generation of highly respected and finest batik artist family in Cirebon, a batik town in North Coast of West Java.

Motif & Batik Process

This motif called Lenggang Kangkung (dancing water spinach), created by a third generation batik artist that is also a farmer in 1960's. She created a motif portraying her verdant water spinach farm and the freely moving/dancing leaves, that symbolizes a flourished life, bringing freedom and enjoy blessings and happiness. The motif is originated from the North Coast of Java island, done by the fourth generation batik artists from the same family the motif was created. Both canting (hand-drawn tool) and copper stamp are used for applying malam (hot wax) to create the design on this silk scarf. The silk is then hand dipped in dye for a few times to achieve the color intended. The silk covered by wax resist the dye. This process is repeated for each color, then silk is dipped in boiling water to remove the wax and dried under the sunlight to bring out the vibrant color. The wax then going through recycling process to be re-used. See Batik Art for more info.

Fringe finish at ends are carefully hand twisted.
