Motif & Batik Process
This scarf is decorated with a combination of motifs - nitik truntum, ceplok squares and circles, and lung-lungan. Both canting (hand-drawn tool) and copper stamp are used for applying malam (hot wax) to create the design on this silk scarf. The silk is then hand dipped in dye for a few times to achieve the color intended. The silk covered by wax resist the dye. This process is repeated for each color, then silk is dipped in boiling water to remove the wax and dried under the sunlight to bring out the vibrant color.
