Motif & Batik Process

This lereng and lung-lungan motif represented by diagonal or incline composition of the lung-lungan with lush vines with leaves, buds, flowers and butterflies. It symbolizes faith, hard work and perseverance will bring to a flourish, prosper and happy live. Originated from the North Coast of Central Java island, founded in 16^th century. Both canting (hand-drawn tool) and copper stamp are used for applying malam (hot wax) to create the design on this cotton scarf. The fabric is then hand dipped in dye for a few times to achieve the color intended. The fabric covered by wax resist the dye. This process is repeated for each color, then fabric is dipped in boiling water to remove the wax and dried under the sunlight to bring out the vibrant color.
